Términos de uso

Estamos preparando la versión en español de esta página. Mientras tanto, aquí está en inglés.

These terms cover your use of Oolayum, a website run by Oolayum that lists meal prices at local restaurants. By using the site you agree to them.

What the prices mean

  • “Yum Verified” means that on the date shown, the price was confirmed by people: two independent local contributors reported the same price, or a person on our side checked it (in person, from a photo, on the restaurant's website, or with the restaurant by phone). A restaurant owner's own word is labelled “From the restaurant” and never makes a price Yum Verified on its own. It isn't a guarantee.
  • “Spotted by” a username (or “by a local”) means one contributor reported the price and a second hasn't confirmed it yet. Treat it as a tip.
  • “Spotted by a guest” means someone without an account added the price, and no one has checked it. Treat it as a tip. It never counts toward Yum Verified.
  • “From the restaurant”, with “their website, read” and a date, means our reader read the price automatically from the restaurant's own online menu on that date, and no person has checked it yet. It's never Yum Verified. It disappears if we stop reading that menu, if a local reports it changed or gone, or when anyone taps “Wrong price?”.
  • “From the restaurant”, with “the owner” and a date, means the restaurant's approved owner (below) gave or confirmed the price on that date. No local has checked it yet, and it's never Yum Verified on its own: two locals who agree make it Yum Verified, and a local can say it's not right.
  • “The restaurant agrees” under a Spotted price means the restaurant's approved owner said, on the date shown, that the spotted price is still right. It doesn't make it Yum Verified.
  • Prices, specials and availability can change at any time. Please confirm with the restaurant before you order.
  • Prices are before tax. We don't provide allergen or nutrition information.
  • We hide prices we haven't re-checked recently rather than show them as current.
  • Prices checked on a restaurant's website come from its own online ordering page. Online prices can differ from in-store prices. We don't take prices from delivery apps, Google or Yelp.

How meals are ordered

Meals are listed by what you pay (the price plus any required add-on), then by name, or by distance if you choose a place. No one can pay to be listed, to rank higher, or to be marked verified.

Using the site

  • Use Oolayum for your own, personal meal decisions.
  • Don't scrape, bulk-download or systematically copy the listings or prices, or use automated tools to do so, except search engines crawling as our robots.txt allows. Some restaurant data comes from open-data sources with their own licenses (see Data sources).
  • Don't misuse the site: no attempts to break, overload or get around its security.

Contributing

To contribute you must be 18 or older, use one account, and accept these terms. You join with Google or, where they're offered, Facebook or a code we email you, or with an invite code or link when we ask for one; each invite code works once. Once you've joined, we email you news on your meals, as our privacy notice says; you can turn it off in your settings or from any of them.

Without an account, you can add one meal as a guest at a local restaurant we list, in any city we cover. You must be 18 or older and accept these terms, the same rules apply, and what you add comes under the same license (below). It shows without a name; if you sign up or sign in on the same device within 7 days, it becomes that account's own contribution.

  • Report only prices you've seen yourself: at the restaurant, on your receipt, or on the restaurant's own website.
  • Report a restaurant as closed or not a restaurant only if you've seen it yourself.
  • Don't post false or misleading prices, don't use more than one account, don't coordinate with others to confirm each other, and don't report on a restaurant you own, work for or compete with.
  • Dish names must be plain dish names: no links, contact details or anything about people.
  • Meal photos must be photos you took yourself, of the food, with no people in them.
  • Meal videos must be videos you filmed yourself, of the meal, up to 60 seconds. Everyone who can be identified in your video agreed to be in it, and no child is a main subject. The sound must be your own or licensed to you: no music you don't have the rights to. A video that breaks these rules, or someone else's rights, can be taken down, and repeated copyright notices close an account.
  • Usernames are unique. We pick one for you when you first post in the community, or you can claim your own once in your profile's settings; after that it can't be changed (ask us if you need help). Never use someone else's name, a business's name or anything offensive. We may rename or remove a username at any time; your weekly count stays.
  • We may hide or remove contributions, and pause or close accounts, if we believe these rules were broken. Reports from a closed account stop counting.

Your contributions. You keep any rights you have in what you submit. You give Oolayum a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual license to use, store, display, adapt and share the prices, dish names, reports, photos and videos you submit, as part of the service, including reposting your videos, with your username, on Oolayum's own social accounts. The name you go by, your bio and your profile photo (Edit profile) are different: you give Oolayum a license to show them inside Oolayum only, on your profile and on Followers and Following lists, while you keep them; it ends when you change or remove them or delete your account, and they're never used in share images, reposts or marketing. A name must be one you go by, never someone else's, and a bio follows the community's rules (no links, contact details or handles). A profile photo must be one you have the right to use: never someone else's picture without their agreement, nothing sexual, violent or hateful, no one's contact details or ID, and never a business's logo, our name, logo or a "verified" mark to pass yourself off as someone else or as checked by us; a photo can be reported, and reports can hide it. Pretending to be someone else can close an account. Adding a meal or a price gives you a username if you don't have one, and it shows beside the meals and prices you add (a price you add shows as “Spotted by” your username from the moment you add it) and beside your Heat on the leaderboard, which anyone can see; it never shows beside a price you only confirmed or a report you made. You have a public profile that lists the meals and restaurants you added and your posts and comments, with dates, and, while videos are on, who follows you, whom you follow and your videos' views, which anyone can open: profiles can't be hidden. The meals you add also show in Recent activity, a few hours later, with the day you added them (never the time) and your username. You confirm you have the right to give it. Community posts have their own terms, below.

Heat, Spice Levels and badges

Heat, Spice Levels and badges are for fun and recognition. They have no cash value and can't be traded or sold. We may change how they're counted, which can change your level or badges, and we remove Heat (or close accounts) for abuse: fake or junk meals, accounts that confirm each other's prices, or trading votes.

Community posts

Anyone can read the community and report what's in it; signed-in Explorers post, comment and vote. Your posts and comments show your username and the date to anyone who opens it. These terms also cover comments on restaurants and on meal videos (what you say about a restaurant or someone's video is yours to stand behind, and the rules below apply), your votes and recommendations on meals, which never rank anything, and your likes and saves on videos.

  • Be 18 or older and use one account.
  • Nothing about other people: no names, photos, descriptions, or where someone is (in a meal video, people who agreed to be in it are fine). No contact details, links or ads.
  • No harassment, threats, hate, sexual content or anything illegal. Don't pretend to be us or anyone else.
  • Don't promote a restaurant you own, work for, compete with, or were paid by.
  • Report honestly, and don't team up to hide or vote on posts and comments.

You keep your rights in what you post. You give Oolayum a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store your posts and comments and show them to anyone inside Oolayum; it ends when the post or comment is deleted (backup copies age out). We won't use your posts anywhere else, such as share images, reports or marketing, without asking you. We may hide or remove posts and comments, but we never edit your words. Two reports from different Explorers hide a post or comment at once. No one can pay to be pinned or to rank higher: pins are our own announcements.

For restaurants

If your listing, a price or a community post about your restaurant is wrong, or you'd like a listing removed (including a restaurant shown as “not explored yet”, which comes from open data), email hello@oolayum.com. We hide a disputed price or listing while we look into it, then fix, confirm or remove it. Copyright concerns: see our copyright page. If you own the restaurant, claim it (below) and keep its prices right yourself from My restaurant.

Claiming a restaurant. Claim a restaurant only if you own or manage it. We check a claim by a code sent from the restaurant's own Facebook page, and once we approve it, its page says “Claimed by the owner” and your comments there are labelled as the owner's. That label is the one exception to not promoting a restaurant you own: say what you like about your own restaurant in its comments, and nothing about competitors. We can turn a claim down or take it back, for example if the restaurant changes hands or the claim was wrong.

Your restaurant's prices (My restaurant). As the approved owner you can set your restaurant's prices, say a price is still right, and say when you no longer offer a dish. Keep them accurate: the price a customer pays today, before tax, and never a price you don't charge. Your prices show at once as “From the restaurant” with “the owner” and the day, never as Yum Verified: locals check them, and two who agree make a price Yum Verified. A local's newer price shows instead of yours, and two locals who agree on a price outrank your word on it. Saying you no longer offer a dish hides every price for it and its page. The phone, About, hours and menu link you add show as from the restaurant: keep them true, use only the restaurant's own number and site, and never write anything in About that reads as our checks (“Yum Verified”). Featuring a meal puts it first on your page only; it never changes where you show on the map or in search. A dish photo you add there (including any you added before your claim was approved) goes through the same check as everyone's and shows marked “Photo from the restaurant” while you own the restaurant; after that it stays, unmarked, like anyone's, until you remove it. It earns no badges, and your report of a photo at your restaurant (from the day you claim it) reaches us but never hides it together with anyone else's. You never confirm or report prices as a local at your own restaurant, and you can't remove anyone's comments. If we take back your claim or you delete your account, your prices and words stop counting, and what showed before shows again.

No warranty

Oolayum is provided as is, to the extent the law allows. We work hard to keep prices accurate, but we can't promise that everything is correct, complete or available at every moment.
